All You Need is Love
Another learning experience occurred when I met my boyfriend of two years, Brandon. This experience is a little bit more personal but definitely an experience that I think is important to my personal growth. Before meeting my boyfriend I must admit that I was a little narrow minded about how I wanted to approach my future. I wanted to have my own job, provide for myself and for my family but nothing more. I was really the type of person who could possibly be perceived as a little bit selfish because everything I did I did to benefit myself mostly, my parents and sister but nobody else. However, meeting my significant other changed that in a good way. After being together for two years I realize that he truly brings out the best in me and he truly has allowed me to learn how beautiful it is to put others first but NEVER forget about yourself in the process. I have learned to have patience and even understand that I cannot always get my way. Meeting him has truly been a blessing as well as a beneficial learning experience for me. Thanks to this life event I was able to see another side of me. Now, I believe that I have become more passionate about my career aspirations, school work, organizations, and life itself because everything I do I do it thinking of my family and Brandon. I am motivated through my family and through Brandon, and I perform better than I did before. Learning to balance out selfless service with independence is truly significant to me because I now am able to realize when I am forgetting about myself or when I am being negatively selfish. I think this is important because if you focus too much on providing for yourself you become arrogant and someone who people don’t like to work with. On the other hand, if you forget about yourself completely you begin to slack on your own responsibilities. Having a balance allows you to not fall into those extremes and makes you a successful independent person whom people can easily work with.
