New Challenges
In Fall 2014 through Spring 2015 I was the Vice President of External Affairs for ALPFA at Texas A&M University. This position brought many challenges for me. ALPFA is an organization allows members to grow as professionals and open doors to internships and careers. One of my biggest responsibilities was to serve as Liaison between our Corporate Sponsors and ALPFA. Through this position I learned my weaknesses when I spoke to corporate representatives but I learned how to improve. Now, I can proudly say that I can carry on a full conversation with a corporate representative with out feeling nervous. Before, I would be very hesitant about what I wanted to say to professionals but after talking to so many of them I learned to not be afraid to be myself, which led to losing the nervous feeling. As Vice President of External Affairs I learned the importance of dealing with difficult people. Sometimes, in life and especially in group environments, there may be people who want to be heard and are sometimes very stubborn. I admit that maybe sometimes I can be that way too. However, I learned that it is important to listen carefully to what others have to say and talk to the entire team about how you feel about a certain situation in order to continue to work efficiently as a team. I believe that joining ALPFA allowed me to discover my strengths as a professional and has opened doors for me that have led me to new challenges. I am thankful for taking on the position of being the Vice President of External Affairs because I have grown to be someone who is responsible and balances their tasks with academics and personal life. Thanks to this organization, I now know how to approach conflict in my life and in a team environment; The learning however, does not stop here and I am ready to take on new challenges.
